How Fast Should a Shopify Store Load? (And How to Get There)
DDevjour Technologies
Page speed is not a vanity metric. Google uses it for rankings, Meta uses landing page experience in ad delivery, and your visitors use it to decide whether to stay.
What "fast" actually means
For a Shopify store we aim for:
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) under 2.5 seconds on mobile
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP) under 200 ms
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) under 0.1
You can check your numbers for free with Google PageSpeed Insights.
The five fixes that move the needle
- Cut app bloat. Every app injects scripts. Audit your app list quarterly and remove anything you are not actively using.
- Compress and resize images. Serve WebP, and never upload a 4000px image for a 400px slot.
- Lazy-load below the fold. Hero content loads first; everything else can wait.
- Use a lightweight theme. Many popular themes ship features you will never use. A lean custom theme is often 3x faster.
- Preload key assets. Fonts and the hero image should be preloaded so the first paint feels instant.
When to get help
If your store scores under 50 on mobile PageSpeed, a speed optimization sprint usually pays for itself in recovered conversions within weeks. That is exactly the kind of work we do, and a speed audit is part of every free strategy call.
